Cheap hotels/motels in Las Vegas, please advise.....?

I am going to Las Vegas for the first time in April. I want to go for 3 days. Any suggestions on where I can stay that is not so expensive? I see some deals on Expedia that seem too good to be true, like really cheap hotel rooms in some very swanky looking hotels. I just want a place to sleep, that's it, since I am on a budget. I don't mind the area, just not in any place that is too dangerous. Thanks.

Really cheap? Downtown would be the best, but you get what you pay for. Try Trivago.com. El Cortez, The D. and the Vegas Club. Gold Spike.

Many of the major casino hotels on the strip do indeed have low rates, because they really make their money by you gambling, drinking, dining, shopping, etc.

If you are visiting for the first time, then you should stay on the strip. Some nice hotels that will probably offer some good rates include Flamingo, Harrah's, Bally's, Monte Carlo, NYNY, Tropicana, Excalibur, and Luxor. These are not the highest end hotels, by any means, but they're nice enough and in good enough locations; rates will vary between these as well. The first 3 are particularly well-located. I'd avoid Stratosphere and Circus Circus; Linq seems to have improved with its renovations, but I'd still be a bit hesitant.

Plenty of the major hotel/casinos have very low rates, especially during the week - they expect to recoup their money in gambling, drinking, shows and dining they expect you to do there
