Polticians understand growing mass population and complicated health care, answer is single payer? Hoping insurance companies will be fair?

Single payer program would eliminate the Health Care Insurance system. Employees of the current companies would become government workers if they were offered jobs. It would become a Medicare or VA program that the government has trouble running. When the government controls the payments, the medical providers have to reduce their care to compensate for the loss of income. It drives the doctors and hospitals out of business and makes the availability of treatment scarce. Government entities never run efficiently and once they are instigated are hard to change.

Anyone who's ever renewed their drivers license understands fully that this is NOT the caliber person we want in charge of our healthcare. Government should govern. Like hockey goalies...regulate the game, dish out penalties, and occasionally let them battle until they're bloody, because people like a show.

Help those in need, but put the incentive to be OUT of that system, not penalize for leaving it. How quickly would people find their next job if they lost 10% of their current unemployment benefit each week (or periodically).

How will you get Congress to ignore big payouts from insurance lobbyists not to pass single payer government insurance?

While I personally think a single payer, but two-tiered system, is the way to go...its not going to happen for a while. The destitute and those simply unwilling to pay are a drain on resources, driving up the costs for people who can pay. Unless hospitals can refuse treatment, we have to go single payer.

That being said, I think we will end up with a two-tiered system where everyone will have basic treatment available, but the best doctors will simply demand more compensation. There are plenty of doctors in major cities that don't bother with ANY insurance whatsoever...there will always be people willing to pay extra for the best doctors.

How can we have single payer with 50 sh*t states regulating their own markets?

Single payer breaks down the larger, more complex and diverse the population.

Single payer would never work in the U.S.

Costs would skyrocket.

Government is never the answer. It is merely a necessary evil.

Of course they understand that, but that isn't who donated to their campaign funds.
