Do you mean single payer, paying the government premiums instead of an insurance company? Like Medicare? You have to get Congress to pass that law and they'd rather get money from lobbyists not to.

If you mean like Medicare, well, most people paid taxes for 40 years into the fund, and it is in trouble, so where would the subsidy to help cover people who did not work 40 years to pay Medicare taxes come from?

Under the ACA, wealthy people already have a surtax on income and their monthly premiums are higher.

The same was said about Soviet Communism. The people rejected this and the former Eastern Bloc countries are doing much better.

YES, we should embrace "universal healthcare", but it doesn't have to be "single payer". EVERY other developed country has universal healthcare (all citizens are covered), but they don't all have "single payer" systems. Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Japan and some others have a system similar to Obamacare but MUCH better - they have insurance companies, but they are very highly regulated to make sure their competition benefits citizens, not billionaire shareholders.

EVERY other developed country insures ALL citizens, and they all do it at HALF the cost of the US system (~9% of GDP vs. ~18% in the US).

Take the names of the countries with the 10 best healthcare systems in the world, put them in a hat, pull one out, and just COPY that system - no need to re-invent the wheel! We would have a MUCH better system at HALF the cost!

At my age I am just hoping to keep it off until I am gone.

If I cud save the next gen from single payer (Hitler style HC) I wud.

But government has too tight a stranglehold on their "brains". So the youth will just have to experience how bad it is.

*** There is a reason gov. also wants to disarm Americans before they learn how bad the coming policies will be.

I'm a liberal and I understand how politics works very clearly. I've learned from watching countless hours of CNN and MSNBC just how politics works.
