motorcycles: Does a Twin Cam 96 Harley Davidson engine have to be serviced at a HD dealership?

I was wondering if a 2008 Harley Twin Cam 96 engine had to be plugged into a

computer at the HD dealership? Thank you.

Not likely that old. a maybe 1 or 2 year old model under warrantee might be better serviced at the Harley dealer. Computer programming for EPA new spec vehicle may be 'dealer only' for first year, dealer computer would have a replaceable RAM chip specific to the model/year, but usually codes and procedures known and available in trade by 3rd year,

No. That bike is 20 years old. There are no warranties at issue,

Even for a new bike it has been tested in court. As long as you get it serviced by a proper certified shop it doesn't even invalidate any warranties.

Most codes can be read without being hooked up to the machine. An most maintenance doesn't require the machine.

You do need the Maintenance manual. New $60 used on Ebay.

Here's a link to a forum with all the codes. http://www.harley-davidsonforums.com/forums/tourin...

Hi yes i would strongly suspect it does as electronics has now even invaded the Harley davidson motorcycle. this saves fuel and gives this old slug some acceleration.
