What is a sponsor?

Someone asked me to sponsor an event that's coming to my city. What does that mean?

    Sponsors for an event PAY for the event production - venue, food, beverages, equipment, decorations, whatever.

    In this context, it means that they want you to donate money to help pay for it.

    It could mean to host, fund as an investment or donation, we would have to know what type of event to tell you.
