Why do so many people deny that life begins at conception?

This to me is truly MIND-BOGGLING. The *fact* that life begins at conception is denied by so many, and it really makes me wonder if I'm living in a twilight zone-type alternate universe and the world has just gone crazy. I understand upholding this truth doesn't necessarily help a certain agenda/ideology (e.g. abortion), but can we just forget the abortion debate for a second and focus on the facts that science has proven?

How can ANYONE walking around on this planet deny that at one point they were IN FACT conceived, and then morphed into a zygote, then a fetus, and so on? They're all stages of LIFE!! In order to become the person you are today, EVERYONE MUST go through these beginning stages. Reputable biologists and embryologists have stated that life begins at conception time and time again. I'm just not getting why this indisputable fact is still being called an opinion by so many laypeople. In my opinion, if you deny this, you most certainly don't have a grasp on basic 7th grade biology.

Anyone care to explain?

If anyone's interested, this is a list of quotations from scientists and professors who rightfully acknowledge that life DOES in fact, begin at conception.

Agreed 100%. As much as liberals love science they seem to deny simple scientific facts when it doesn't suit their arguments. The fact that people believe a conceived egg is not a human life is disturbing if you ask me. At what point is it a human life? If you are pro choice fine, but don't tell me that isn't a human life just so it makes you feel better. It's the early stages of a human life, but it's a human life nonetheless.

Because usually those people are the same that are selfishly interested in ending life at its begining. It's easier for them denying it to avoid any responsability, remorse, guilt or punishment.

Because "conception" is not an instantaneous thing. Also, it's not the life of the embryo that is questioned but it's rights or full personhood.

It is interesting that those who, like the OP, have a religious agenda quote alleged scientific facts and claim these facts are supported by many scientists. They never directly point to the actual science to which they allegedly refer. Similarly none of the supposed many scientists are ever referenced. This is for one of two reasons. The person does not know the science or the scientists because they have, without thinking about it or checking it out, simply regurgitated propaganda fed to them. The worst alternative is that they are fully aware they are lying. The second alternative is quite ironic because these are the same people who claim to have the moral high ground.

You cannot simply say that life begins at conception without first defining what you mean by life. Conception results in a single cell, not a sentient human being. If you are so concerned about this one cell why not the same concern for all the cells you lose daily? You claim to be trading in scientific facts. You are not and probably would not recognise a scientific fact if it smacked you in the face. You are, instead, peddling lies and propaganda based on emotions rather than facts.

Sure. Life doesn't begin at conception simply because life is a continuous process. It takes a living entity, at least one cell, that has the ability to reproduce itself by simple cell division for us puny little insignificant humans to call something alive.

Just because a vast majority of living things reproduce sexually and divide their DNA in half to join the complement half of DNA doesn't mean these cells are any more or less special than a one cell bacteria.

The point is that it takes two living entities, in this case two humans, two produce an egg and sperm. They are both alive...And the instance of fertilization, "conception" is nothing special. You have a potentially unique new human in the DNA sequences.

This process can be completed from Frozen eggs and frozen sperm, decades after the donors are DEAD! If you really want to. A fertilized egg that starts to divide is called an embyro and THAT EMBYRO can be frozen again and implanted DECADES later as well.

Fertilized eggs and embyros do not a child make. They don't have rights and are nothing special.

    .......................or even before

I mean, why exclude sperm and unfertilized eggs? aren't they alive too?
