Why are my short iron shots going 90 degrees from the club.?

I am a left handed golfer, whenever I try a chip shot with a short iron, all my shot shoot off at 90 degrees away from me. It is as if my wrist are loose (which they are not) or it is coming off the toe. It is really starting to affect my game now and I think about it whenever I have a short iron in my hands. What is going wrong and how can I correct it?

You got the old hosel rocket (i.e. the sh**ks, the lateral squirts). The clubface is open at impact (badly open). It's probably more mental than anything else. Slow down. Take a 25-30% swing (just slow down so that you get that clubface square at impact). Hit another. Then another.
