What happens if I leave a hair mask on all night?

I made a hair mask from one whole egg and two tablespoons of olive oil mixed with a tiny bit of Coconut oil. It's supposed to be good for my hair but I'm not sure if I can leave it on all night. I'm hoping I can though.

Around 10-12 hours instead of the 2-3 hours it says to leave on for.

Thanks!!

I've been using a coconut oil mask for my hair twice a week overnight, pretty good results, being that my hair is softer, no longer dry & brittle, growing longer thicker & faster, strengthening and it certainly does not fall out, I've been using this mask over 12 months.

An egg mask is absolutely fine as well. Leaving it in overnight isn't going to hurt your hair. It will do much the same thing. These treatments are perfectly fine and healthy.

Just because three hours is good doesn't mean more hours is better. There comes a point where your hair can't absorb any more of the oils. Within three hours your hair will be saturated and it will have soaked up all the oil it can. After that the eggs will start to dry out and your hair will be stiff and greasy in the morning. Putting plastic over will not prevent the eggs from drying in fact it will intensify the drying -it's a chemical reaction for the heat that is generated between the plastic and your body heat. It's like a sponge, it can only hold so much water and leaving it the bathtub overnight won't make it soak up more -once it's saturated it can hold no more. Your hair is porous like a sponge and after three hours it's not soaking up anything more.

    1. Your sheet will get all smelly.

    2. You'll wake up smelling like rotten egg!

    3. Greasy stuff, rolling all over your hair, sheet, you'll have to sleep sitting down.

    4. It will be wash off when you wash them off.

    5. You'll get very little benefits.

    6. It may even cause your hair to fall out!

You'll get 100% benefits making an egg salad, add whole olives, sliced cucumber, fresh cut-up young tender coconuts (I just had some for snacks from the freezer 3 slices of them tonight), sprinkle some toasted sesame, tomatoes, & use olive & vinegar dressing, than putting them on your hair, which are just TEMPORARY until you wash them off again.

Best advice from Hollywood's well known hairstylist in the 80's once said: "Keep foods in your mouth and hair products on your hair."

Example from YA!: “Coconut oil dried and made my hair fall out? But I want to use it again, a few months ago I bought coconuts and extracted the oil from them at home and used the oil on my hair, after washing my hair it felt dry (but generally oils make my hair drier) and it made my hair fall in long strands while washing it out (but I have to say that I was losing a lot of hair at the time before using the oil).”

ANOTHER EXAMPLE: “so, i've been experiencing sudden increase in hairfall since the last 4-5 months and i think my hair density is also decreasing. i have just turned 19 this october. Every hair has a white stuff at the end.i lose around 20-30 hair while shampooing and around 15-20 hair while oiling.”
