Does verizon check credit for new customers trying to get a 2yr contract. If so, is there anyway to avoid that but still get a 2yr contract?

The 2 year contract is dependent on a credit check, unless you are renewing an existing contract.

Some companies do allow you to skip the credit check, but they make you pay a deposit.

If you want a post paid account on any carrier, you are going to have your credit checked. So if your plan is to make monthly payments on a phone that you can't pay for up front, don't even bother because your credit is going to rat you out as a risk, especially if you have skipped out on paying your bills anywhere, including another carrier. So not other than LYING or putting your plan under someone name other than your own, you are not going to avoid YOUR credit getting run. And if you go with the plan and phone under a friend or family members name, you run the risk of making them mad and having them rip the rug out from under you, closing the account, and reporting your phone stolen. Court TV is full of those type of squabbles.

The only way to avoid a credit check these days, is to pay cash for prepaid phones and plans.
