Could a nonprofit be compelled to provide personal information about clients it serves to the government by state law in New York?

    Yes, under EXACTLY the same terms as a for profit organization, or an individual. Non-profit status is 100% irrelevant. That said, absent a legitimate investigation to which the information is relevant, they can't legally demand the time of day.
