Is it a normal price or practice for Guitar Center to charge by the inch in resealing the top of my Ovation to the body?

There is a 14 inch area that came loose and he said a minimum of $350.00. So if it was 28" it would be 700.00???? That is absurd, and I smell a problem there. Am i right to feel something is not right with the way he wanted to charge?

Update:

I do not need anyone calling me a liar in their answer. I am very able to know just what was told me at the Guitar Center today, by the arrogant he must think he is something dude at Guitar Center who precisely told me he was charging by the inch and that they always sharge by the inch. Can I be more clear than that? Juat what I need on a great news day someoine to tell me I am WRONG they did NOT say that. good lord what is she/he like when there is real conflict?

Update 2:

ForTony B and other self righteous NONE readers of the English language. Please,PLEASE read my question again beforeyou start layingoutyour judgements. And befrrore telling metospellcheck pleaseunderstand this: I amtheone who takes thedopedealers/Hispanic gangs off yoursidewalk, and get rewarded with break ins and damaged things like this lkeyboard. Some talk about these trhings, like cops and academics, I do it.

I've never had an experience where they charge by the inch when repairing a guitar. Does this guitar have a lot of meaning to you? If not, you might just want to look into getting a new guitar. Ovation guitars aren't worth much so it doesn't really make sense to spend that much on a cheap guitar.

If you didn't like the employee you spoke with ask for another opinion.

    Hope you work it out.

Generally, a guitar tech or better will bid a price for the job, period. Yours is a pretty bad bit of damage, and I suspect the price would be the same whether 10, 15, or 20 inches. Ovations don't just use wood glue for that, either. Personally, for that kind of situation, I'd contact Ovation, and go from there.

The things generally range in price from about $300 through $1300, which needs to be part of the decision.

For a basic one, I would never pay as much again to have it fixed at Guitar Center, or anywhere for that matter.

As a basket case, I'd get some suitable industrial resin and try a DIY repair, having little to loose.

Out of morbid curiosity, what happened? Last guitar I damaged was from grabbing an unsnapped case...

Best of luck to you, Preacher.

I think you're making an incorrect assumption. I have found the folks at Guitar Center to be honest. I also can't understand why you'd want to repair an Ovation in the first place. After you've spend all that money all you have to show for it is that joke of a crappy guitar.

I read your very rude and threatening comment to another answer so I won't give mine.

I will say though that, since you feel so strongly about it, it would have been a good idea to have said in your original question that Guitar Centre TOLD YOU they were charging "by the inch". Your original question gives the impression that you are simply guessing that this is the case, "So it it was 28" it would be 700.00 (sic)????" If they told you they charged "by the inch" then what are you asking? Surely you KNOW that 2x350 = 700, why the question marks?
