Petroleum Engineering HELP?
Well I am looking to go to the University of Houston, and I'd like a B.S in PE, but I was afraid that it would be very hard to find a job as a "rookie", most of the jobs shown NEEDED experience, like 5-10 years.. What would be the process of obtaining a starting job ? Any tips or am I over thinking this ? I just don't want a hassle when I graduate..

Its easy to get on as a MUDLOGGER---they often work directly with PEs---and for the same company. Get your oilfield experience and move on up.

Have you talked with the U of H placement office about how many of their PE's get jobs. I bet it is a pretty good number.

First, you will have a hassle when you graduate, regardless of what field you select. Second, Petroleum Engineers are the highest paid engineers and are always in demand. As a graduate engineer you will have a lot of opportunities and it will be your responsibility to grow in the field once you start. You should have little difficulty in landing suitable employment should you wish to pursue Petroleum Engineering.
