Tell me if I got scammed?

Okay me and my pals went into asda to do a self checkout scam (when you scan a cheap item twice and put an expensive item down instead). Okay, I tried that but then the man came over and asked if I wanted the chocolates I said no. Then he took them away. The security guard pulled me over saying that I hadn't paid for the cheap item I brought which I had. Then he checked CCTV and seen the self checkout scam. I said that I was just clumsy and scanned the wrong thing twice. He then said pay £1 or I will call the police. I paid. Then he let me go, would I get in trouble for the self checkout thing even though I actually didn't do the scam successfully ?

This is CONCLUSIVE proof that whatever happened, YOU did not get scammed.

By the way, you are a BAD liar. There is NO WAY anyone would accept a bribe anywhere near that SMALL.

Lets not pretend you went in to steal and you were caught and because you were caught they decided to give you a chance...... try shop lifting again and they will phone the police and the police will take you to court and you will get yourself a criminal record for theft

It sounds like all the security there let you go. So you don't have to worry about them reporting you. Probably avoid that place in the future.

So your theory is that a thief who is caught should be let off because he wasn't successful? I don't think incompetence is a very good defense.

BTW- you do know that when stores have losses because of shoplifting, they take on extra money to the price of the goods to make up for it, right? That means that the other shoppers were paying for the goods you "scammed".

In the states - yes. "Intent" counts.
