My dog is drinking a gallon of water each day. The vet has given treatment for a water infection but no improvement.?

Update:

I did take a urine sample to the vet. Thank you for all your advice. Ruby and I will be back at the vet tomorrow.

Update 2:

Ruby has Cushing disease so a treatment programme can begin.

Thank you to everyone for your replies and best wishes.

I'm a veterinary technician for more than 5 years, plus another 6 years in the vet med industry and I've never heard of a "water infection."

If your dog is drinking that much water - it probably has diabetes or Cushings or maybe is Addisonian. I would get to the vet ASAP.

Excessive drinking is often a sign of kidney problems or urinary tract disorder. I would get a second opinion.

    Sounds like diabetes.

Your dog has diabetes. What are his sugar levels. Simple 2 minute blood test. He needs insulin shots, right away. You need a new vet.

Then perhaps it time you take the dog to another vet for a second opinion....

What is a 'water infection', other than a UTI, or maybe diabetes? If this is still happening, I'd be back to the vet. He won't know his treatment hasn't improved this, unless you tell him!

take her back to the vet. A gallon is a lot of water for a dog. The dog could have anything from UTI to diabetes. A blood test could rule out anything serious

I've never heard of a water infection.

Is the dog diabetic? Is the dog having a thyroid issue? Both types drink tons of water and it's a sign there's something medically wrong that needs to be treated.

I can only echo Nekkid's post.

    A "water infection"???

Has his thyroid been tested? Tested for diabetes? Urine test to rule out kidney issues?
