When having a child does this make the father want to marry the mother?

I'm having a child and just wondering that will this make the father want to marry the mother?

Much will depend on the social norms where the mother is. In Britain in the 1950s, it was expected that, if a male got a female pregnant through "sex outside marriage" then that male would "have to" marry the female.

The term "shotgun wedding" often applied, meaning that the father of the pregnant female might stand over the erring male with a a shotgun until he "did the decent thing" and married the female.

Nowadays many people have sex as a purely fun activity, and if pregnancy occurs then there might seem little obligation to marry, especially if the female does not really fancy the male, or if the male is an irresponsible sort of person who does not want to get married.

In far too many cases, it makes it opposite. The guy runs out.

If he loves you he will marry you, a child won't make a difference.

Not necessarily. Sometimes a guy will marry the mother, but its becoming more common that he doesn't. If that was the plan when you got pregnant, you may be very disappointed.

No, the father may not be able to support even himself, let alone the mother and the baby. Why would he want to marry the mother?

A man who WANTS to marry you, will do so before you get pregnant

marrying you now, you will always know he only married you because of the baby

and a lot of men wont marry despite a baby, look at all the unmarried mothers out there

No. It often works the other way. I know someone who works in Labor and Delivery. She says that when teens come in to give birth, there's rarely any sign of the father. It's really a better idea to make sure someone is committed to you BEFORE you get pregnant with their child.
