Based on these pictures and symptoms could this just be an oil filter leak?

I have a '94 Mustang and yesterday I noticed a puddle of oil under the car after it had been running for about a minute or so. It was about 8 inches in diameter. When the car is not running, it does not leak. I crawled under and took a look at it, and it looks like it is coming from the top of the oil filter. There is an oil run on the side. I do not think it that it is the housing gasket since the oil is just around the very top of the filter, the pictures will make more sense. I had the oil and filter changed about 500 miles ago.

Thanks for your help in advance, it is very much appreciated.

Update:

Thanks for all of your advice. I took it in (had it towed to be safe), and long story short it was the oil filter. They did not charge anything. They did not tell me exactly what went wrong, I was just happy this was not a 2000 dollar repair.

Sometimes the filter gasket pops out of place if you put the filter on loose or don't set the gasket right. Remove the filter, put the gasket in place, put the filter back on to the correct tightness, refill the oil if you need to. Keep your eye on this situation for a week or two. If it pops loose again, get a new filter .

Yes, there is a good chance that it is just a filter problem or filter casket issue. It definitely looks like it is leaking from the filter gasket area. If you need to drive it a short way to get back to the repair shop then be sure and check the oil level before you do. Don't drive it with low oil level.

Don't drive the car until you take the oil filter off and find out if the high school drop out that changed your oil didn't check to see if the old oil filter gasket stuck on the motor. When you have double gaskets the oil can suddenly bow out of the motor from between the 2 gaskets and ruin the bearings. This happens often and I would not take the chance of trying t drive it anywhere! Hope you saved your receipt!!
