Why do people believe that the Quran supports killing those who don't follow it?

It literally says "offering them (your) love even though they have rejected the Truth that has come to you... because ye believe in Allah your Lord!"

Update:

Tbh, I was just trying to see what people's opinions are. I am a debater and I could very easily see the fallacious nature of my argument. I was simply stating a point which several others have pointed out in other debates regarding this controversial issue. Also, the Bible and the Torah also suggest killing nonbelievers. It is not simply the Islamic tradition. I myself am omnist (google it) and I have read these religious texts in their entirety.

Update 3:

I just wanted to see if others could see the straw man fallacy along with the obvious cherrypicking. I fully agree with everyone in the fact that the text does support killing unbelievers.

I don't know about Quran, but the bible doesn't condone murdering non-believers. It basically says they will suffer in the afterlife but doesn't condone killing them. People always take things out of context without understanding. Like the whole "stoning" people to death who break the commandments. Yes, this was true at one point, although the bible didn't say to do such a thing (to my knowledge), it was however, how some religious people at the time behaved and what society viewed as acceptable. Then there came the time of Jesus... where they wanted to stone that women committing "adultery" but Jesus basically came and told them to f off lol. Whenever people want to claim Christianity condones murdering non-believers, they ALWAYS talk about the stoning but completely ignore the part where Jesus told people NOT to do that and NOT to judge others. They cherry pick and put things out of context because they haven't read the whole thing from start to finish.

The same MIGHT be true in regards to the Quran. I honestly don't know. The Muslims would know better. I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt until I read it fully. However, I did once skim across a verse that I think stated not to commit suicide or kill others but I sadly don't remember which verse or where exactly. I'd have to read the whole thing to find it, which I probably will just out of curiosity to see if Islam is really what the media portrays it to be.

One reason people will think what you ask is true is due to extremism (Again, I'd have to pick up a Quran to confirm if true or not) but the extremist and terrorists do condone killing non-believers. Whether this is taken out of context and applied to service their needs or is in actuality what the Quran teaches and condones, I do not know yet. But it'd be the same if there was a prominent Christian group that was stoning people to death. The media and everyone would be saying, "Look, Christianity is evil! It condones stoning people to death! Look at what its made the terrorists do." They would, again, completely disregard the part where Jesus said stoning is wrong and to not judge and put their spin on it. Then they would generalize most, if not all Christians as being bad people when, when in reality, it is just certain people interpreting the bible in a negative way and using religion as a scapegoat for their OWN actions. I am curious to see if Islam is something similar to what I just mentioned, or if it genuinely condones murdering of non-believers. We shall see.

    All religions do that.

    You're "cherry picking".

Why don't you cite the quotes that talk about killing the infidels, stoning people to death or hacking off limbs.

Because there are more than several verses in the Quran that not only say it's okay to kill non-muslims but that it should be encouraged. Not to mention the fact that just like @Jimmy C suggests, muslims don't exactly have the best track record when it comes to 'playing nice' with people from other faiths.

Self indoctrination. Those muslims use their religion to excuse atrocities.

Most are angry about wars in the Middle East and fuse politics and enlightenment revolutionary zeal with ancient religion creating a mutated version of Islam

Because there are many verses in there that encourage muslims to kill non-believers, and the fact that muslims have a nasty habit of doing precisely that.

The question you need to ask is why do your fellow Muslims thing it says to kill those who don't follow it, because they are certainly doing that

Quran (3:151) - "Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority"

Quran (4:89) - "They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks."

Yeah, cherry picking one verse out of a large book of verses isn't at all dishonest, is it now?
