Contact wearers with really bad eyesight. Please see details.?

I'm only asking this question because I'm curious. How do people that wear contacts with really bad vision see to put them in? I wear glasses and have never tried contacts but if I did I feel like I could see to put them in. Thanks for any input.

Some , with very poor vision keep their glasses on until the lens is placed on their finger ready to insert, then remove the glasses and insert the lens without a mirror in most cases.

David, if your contacts were painful, they were either inside out, or they were fitted improperly. You should not feel lenses in your eyes. I'm extremely myopic and presbiopic, meaning I can't see far away, and I can't see to read when normal lenses are in my eyes. I wear multi focal lenses so I can see far, near, and mid range. LOVE them! I don't use a mirror to put them in. I would hate to have to wear coke bottle glasses all my life. Contact lenses are a form of freedom, and also a heck of a lot cooler in summer.

Most contact lens wearers are myopic. That means that they see great up close and poorly at distance. Because of this, they may have to get a few inches away from the mirror but they can see to put contacts in. Patients who are far sighted have more problems. There are special glasses for applying make up that work. See an example on the link. They can also use a pair of reading glasses with one lens removed.

When you get your lenses, they should check what strength you need, as many people need different strengths for each eye (I have 1.5 in one eye and 2.75 in the other) and then show you exactly how to put them in.

It takes a little practice, but you'll manage just fine.

They have a magnifying mirror at all good opticians, and I have a large one (about 9 inches across) that stands on my dresser at home - they're not expensive.

Using one of those, it's easy to get the lenses in.

You don't have to have perfect vision to put in contacts. You just need a sense of where you finger tip is as well as where your eye is. The rest is just being careful.
