What ever happened to manners and compassion in our society?
The more I read about Trump supporters who rail against Political Correctness, against helping the poor, against allowing in immigrants, etc., the more I wonder where the universe changed. When I was growing up, I was encouraged to show good manners, which included not insulting anyone, including those not like me (it was called manners then, not political correctness), and to follow the Golden Rule--do unto others as they would do unto you. So if you found someone who was suffering, you tried to help. Every religion I know of has the Golden Rule--why isn't it followed anymore?
Of course I meant to say "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." It seems like the ones who criticize me the most for wanting compassion, such as aiding the poor, or allowing the oppressed into the country, are the ultra-right wing. Liberals I know are more concerned with helping the poor and oppressed. And for this we get called snowflakes. Is that because our hearts melt when we see suffering?
