opinion on protagonist viewpoint change?

In my novel there are two protagonists. Zoe is going to die half-way through the story. However the first half of the novel is going to be told from her POV. Then when she dies the POV will switch to Alice s POV.

My goal in doing this is to shock the reader and make them feel the vulnerability of Alice even stronger in the second half of the story.

Is this a good idea, or should i keep to one POV throughout story?

  • Your goal isn't going to be achieved.

The problems with multiple first person stories is you lose a certain percentage of readers when you change voices, as well as the inevitable problem most first time authors have with actually sounding like more than one person. Lets tell the truth, the average starting writer can barely pull off one realistic voice, let alone two.
