F1 is an open-top racing series. Either it's too dangerous for the modern world and it ends now (and we go and watch LMP and DTM instead) or everybody accepts that the drivers are knowingly taking a risk and lets them get on with it. Putting any of the silly "solutions" which have been tried in the last couple of years onto the car is not only going to make them look ridiculous, but also destroys one of the founding principles of F1. It isn't F1 if it has a lid on it, just a more expensive and less open and exciting version of LMP.

I think they needed to do something in light of the Jules Bianchi tragedy of a couple of years back. What the best solution is, is still not clear, but it's a step in the right direction.

I would've preferred if they went with a full canopy, like on a fighter jet. That would've made the cars safer from penetration, and it would've also made the cars more aerodynamically efficient. But the downside would've been, that the canopy would've made escape from car impossible in the case of a rollover.
