They are not doing it. It is a consequence of the BREXIT vote last year.

WE caused it. The government's job .... ANY government's job .... is to manage it so we get back to a stable, sustainable position.

The labour party came out with some tempting words about ending austerity but we all know they were stupid because that would just get us deeper trouble. If a person is deeply in debt, they have to stop spending, not keep borrowing more. It is the same for a country. We can't keep spending what we haven't got.

If it hadn't been for the BREXIT vote, the country would be in better shape .... but the country voted for BREXIT so now we have to live with the consequences including its negative impact on the economy. It is not what many of us wanted but we were out-voted.

It wouldn't have been a problem, if we had never joined in the first place. I voted for an end to the EU, not for a promise of 'Christmas come early'.

The really sad part is that it's all by choice, with 2 very small changes to Brexit, Britain could be booming, so it's very much an intentional-problem by the Tories.

And that was predicted, May is pushed forward to destroy the Social-Infrastructure, and she did, and is still doing it. It's the Final-Step to mature Tory-Globalism which was designed, and started by Thatcher.
