Is it normal to experience this much pain when taking out a retainer?
I ve never had braces before and I started wearing Essix retainers about 4 months ago. i went in for an orthodontist appointment yesterday and he tightened my lower ones and they didn t hurt. However, I took my retainers out after sleeping with them on, and when I took the bottom one out, the pain was so bad my eyes started watering a bit. Should I go make another appointment or should I just wait it out?

Yes. I would make another appointment with your orthodontist. Retainers shouldn't be hurting.
