Guys Did I Make Myself Sound Like the Biggest B*tch by Telling This Guy??

Let me start off by saying that we went on like 2 dates in the past month, but he moved away a couple days ago.. I knew he was going to move away the whole time but I asked him out anyways (both times)
but since he had to move we didn't really get to hang out more than those two times and didn't get to spend time together for the 2 weeks prior to his move because I falsely didn't think he liked me very much and he falsely didn't think I liked him very much but we both did like each other
Anywhoom i texted him out of curiosity a couple days ago and asked to see what he was doing and all of a sudden we started talking about our past 2 dates and he straight up said he didn't get the vibe that I liked him which is why we didn't hang out more and that it was unfortunate because he was actually into me
And I replied saying that it was unfortunate and that I wish I knew earlier, and the last text I replied with was "Well I guess Ill see you in another lifetime"
First of all, is it really bad that I replied with that? I know its a major conversation ender but is it rude? I didn't think we would keep in touch anyways (we are both terrible texters) and he lives so far away..
second, why in the world would someone think you don't like them if you ask them out twice yourself???
