Should I report my daughter s school mate for getting a Facebook account even though she s only 11?
It makes it harder to tell my own daughter that she can t have an online presence when her friends are allowed - aaaargh!

I don't think it's necessary. There will always be things other kids are allowed to do that you do not feel is appropriate for your child. Is the school mate's parents allowing her to have one? If so, I would just tell your daughter just because other kids are allowed to do things doesn't mean they should. You as a parent are responsible for the well being of your child not other people's children. She may not understand or say it's not fair, but that's life right?

Minors can have accounts. Yes, you're exposing them to the world. Yes, Facebook has additional protections for minors. No, they don't guarantee minors' safety. Yes, your kid is going to waste tons of time there. Yes, your kid probably already has one.
Welcome to the world. Whether or not you want to protect them from it has no bearing on what they learn from it. Remember when you were a kid? Yours could be better, or worse, and you would never know.
