in the sentence below why is it written "heals" shouldn't it be "is healing"? why present simple?

“Brad’s been

writing his thoughts, feelings and

memories in a journal as he heals,

    You could use either one. You can regard healing as a single action or as an ongoing process. There are many cases where you can use either the simple present or the present progressive.

    Either of the following would be correct:

    "as he heals".

    "as he is healing".

    No,heals is correct as is 'is healing'.
