Is your gun permit for the entire united states or just for your state?

Just your state as far as I know. Sometimes it covers multiple states. My brother has one for our state and another one that covers him in I believe six other states.

My permit (MN) is good in Minnesota and over 25 other states. Check out the website "yourstategunlaws.com" to learn about yours. There is also an android app called "concealed carry laws" available that has most of the same information.

Do some research. Even though another state may honor your permit, they may have very different laws about how and where you may carry within that state. For example, most states prohibit carrying in schools, but in D.C, you can't carry within 1000 feet of a school. That's a pretty big difference.

There is actually NO SUCH THING as a gun permit in the US. Nearly every state allows owning a gun without a permit. MOST states allow openly carrying a gun without a permit. EVERY state allows concealed carry with a permit and a growing number without a permit. Concealed carry permits are issued by individual states, but there are agreements between states to recognize each others permits. Which permits are recognized in which states varies from state to state and over time.
