New TSA rules?
I see on the news the new "bigger than a smart phone" procedure.
Can two tablets go in one tray side by side if they fit that way and don t obscure each other? Or must each get its own tray? I assume that what TSA wants to avoid is devices in layers (like a kindle on top of an iPad or iPhone for example).
I usually fly with a multi-pocket vest that holds my Kindle, backup battery pack, earbuds, etc. If I can arrange my vest in the plastic tray so that there s no stacking is that ok? Or must I unload my vest?

Hello Gary, I'll chime in. Your assertion is correct, it is give the x-ray operator an un-obscured view of electronics larger than a cellphone. (The jihadis are working towards smuggling bombs inside certain electronic devices with next generation explosives that has a higher explosive yield per unit mass.)
Tablets side-by-side with nothing above or below the device is perfectly fine. As for your vest, keep your gear in the pockets, place the vest in a bin. Your added efforts is appreciated. If you need help, ask the nearest available TSA officer for assistance. (I make it a point to assist on a one-on-one basis when requested.)

YOU DO AS THE TSA AGENT ASKS.
If they want ONE per tray DO IT.
NEW RULES takes a bit for all to adjust.
You make this sound like it takes hours to stuff the stuff back in your various pockets.
The bad guys are getting better at making smaller bombs. Just the way it is.
You make your time at security FAST or S L O W by how you pack your stuff and what stuff you have.
Make it easy for TSA and they can go faster.

Go to the TSA site and check it out. Be prepared to be hassled. My brother who is an average white guy gets the FULL TREATMENT every time he travels. He is not stupid enough to ask why. I, myself wear very little when traveling, no belts, no laced shoes nothing like that. One bag with all suspicious stuff ON TOP in my bag. My worst encounter is when I had screwdriver bits that I had bought while on vacation. I put them on the very top. The TSA lady looked worried and asked a TSA gentleman about them, he said no problem. If I had foolishly put them under, I would have had problems. I only travel with a carry on.
