Hep B Screening test is positive, but neutralization test is negative?

I ve just received a letter from a place where I donated plasma. The letter says that I might be infected with hep b. They performed two blood tests. First screening test is positive, however the HBsAg Neutralization test is negative. What does that mean? Does it mean I might have accute hep b?

It means you need to see a private doctor to follow up on the testing. The present tests show that you were HBsAg positive with screening not not confirmed with the neutralization test.

You need to have a viral PCR test (load) for HBV, antibody against the core (HBcAb) along with liver enzyme testing. That would give a more complete picture as to what is going on.

All results need to be evaluated in determining if you are infected or not and also one must take into consideration viral genetic mutations that may give altered testing results some of which can give false negative tests.
