Why Is The A General Custer Memorial?

Update:

The man was a racist; idiot; and horrible leader of men.

    Little Big Horn is not a commemoration to Custer. It is a memorial to all who fought at the battle, both US Cavalry and the Sioux tribes involved. Its purpose is wholly historical.

    The one in Ohio commemorates his Civil War actions, not his defeat in 1876.

    There's also a monument at the site of the Little Bighorn battle, but that's not a "Custer" monument.

    While he seems to have been quite popular with his men, I agree that he was an idiot and an egomaniac.

    Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument preserves the site of the June 25 and 26, 1876, Battle of the Little Bighorn. The area is maintained by the National Park Service . The site serves as a memorial to all who died and an educational tool for the National Park Service. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
