Is my PS3 getting close to retirement?

I have the ORIGINAL model PS3. That fat old thing with the Spiderman logo writing on it. It has lasted almost 10 years for me due to taking care of it and regular cleanings.

However, my PS3 has recently begun skipping when I play DVD s on it. At first, I assumed the discs were messed up, but when I play them in a regular DVD player they work just fine. The wireless controller that I ve had since I got it will no longer function unless it s on its charge cable and it has reached its memory limit on games (which is surprising because I m [what they call] a "filthy casual").

With the PS4 out and parts and pieces becoming harder and more expensive to find; is my PS3 ready to be retired?

It depends how much you want to play PS3 games (and PS2 games, if you have one of the early PS3 models).

You can replace the Blu-Ray drive and buy a new controller. You can upgrade the HDD if you're running out of space. Or you could just buy a used PS3 in working condition.
