I was advised by bank teller that my check would take 7 business days to post. Does a hold really talk that long for a check to clear?
New checking account less than 30 days was the reason. Check amount was 4500. Out of state account. What are the chances it actually takes 7 business days?? Will funds be available earlier?

if this check is from another bank and a customer they do not know of course it can take 7 days in fact your bank may put a hold on a specific amount of that check for 10 days to make sure it clears the other bank

The check should take no more than three days to clear. The teller was incorrect.

Speak with the manager at the bank. They can override the days in question

It does not take that long but as a new customer they usually hold it for longer than necessary. They will often reduce it on a specific check plus they will also allow you to get access to some of it ahead of time.

You have a new account, meaning that you have no history with the bank. You are depositing a large check ($4500 is much more than the average customer deposits) The check is written on an out of state bank.
You may be perfectly honest and the transaction could be totally legitimate. The bank has to take steps to protect themselves because the chance of fraud is higher than with a normal transaction. They are going to hold the funds until they are sure that the check clears and is legitimate.

Out of state checks do take longer to clear. It could be as little as 3 business days, but I wouldn't count on it.

It's usually that you can get the funds after three days but the cheque can still bounce afterwards and even if you have spent the money, you'd go overdrawn if there isn't enough to take it back. I have a chart at home, it says when I can draw money and when they will know it's mine, and they don't count weekends and bank holidays.
