Where to sell totaled car?

I have a friend who got into an accident and the car is totaled. They had liability only insurance so not much can be done with the car. Does anyone know of a reputable company that would buy the car and take it away?

It is going to depend on the amount of damage as to what your best options for sale are going to be. If the car has the potential for rebuilding, or has many valuable parts, you may want to use the services of an auto auction company that deals with damaged vehicles

Insurance Auto Auctions Inc, and Copart both will sell your car for you

You could also list it on Craigslist or perhaps as a parts car on Ebay

If there is a lot of damage, you may just want to call a local recycling (junk) yard and see what they will pay

If your car is totaled and the insurance company has reimbursed you, THEY now own the car technically. So the fate of the car is up to them. They will usually let you buy back the salvage if you want it repaired, but you didn't say that. As was pointed out, most wrecking yards would be glad to have it and will usually tow it away free.

    Any scrap dealer.

Buy perhaps. They may even charge to take it away.

Lots of junkyards buy cars. The price depends on the condition and if you tow it to them or they come get it.

? Being reputable is meaningless in this case. Either they buy the car or they don't.

What happens to it afterward isn't something to be concerned about.

If it's a rare or collectible car, he/she should part it out - will make a lot more money that way.

Totaled cars are usually sold to junk yards who will then salvage parts; apparently the repair cost exceeds the value of the car so it is a total loss and with liability only coverage and with the friend being at fault (or friend had accident in a no fault state), the insurance company will not pay you book value for car and you need to dispose of it. If this is the case, contact several different junk yards to see which gives you best price; you will see a wide variance in what they will offer you so contact at least 4 different junk yards.

Depends where you live of course but there are plenty of places that will come get the car and give a few bucks for doing so. i sold an 82 F250 a few years back for 500 bucks to one of these buyers.

    Ex.webuyanycar.com

Do a google search for "places that pay for junk cars near me" and get some estimates (clean title will be required and damage will affect the price be ready with some pictures to get the most accurate prices.

Any scrap dealer will take it away. They might give you a goldfish in a jar or a paper windmill for it.
