What can I do to win my CC dispute against an airline?

My sister and I have had a horrible year, so we decided to relax and forget about all bad things and having one actually good thing this year, so we decided to go to Cabo for Labor Day weekend.

I live in NYC and she lives in FL. So, we bought the roundtrip flights on Expedia, and the hotel stay in Groupon.

The thing is, that there was a tropical storm (almost hurricane) practically the exact same days of our trip (Started on Friday until Saturday) -our trip was Fri-Mo.

We both had a layover in Mexico City, I was there first (scheduled to fly to Cabo at 7am) and my sister was arriving at nighttime. My flight to Cabo was cancelled last minute, and they didn't notify me nor my sister that her flight was going to be cancelled as well until AFTER she left FL. I was so pissed, because it's a scam, it's like they wanted us to actually take the flights without letting us know about the climate situation so that we couldn't cancel.

They thought that they were doing me a great favor by changing my flight to Cabo for Sunday night (are they serious? I was leaving Monday at noon!), denying me to change it for anytime sooner, while my sister's flight was changed to Saturday morning. It did't make sense.

Now, the hotel says that since it's a Groupon, our only choice is to change the dates for another vacation weekend. But the Airline says it's not their fault and basically, my flight back to JFK was deducted from my flight to Cabo...

Update:

It really annoys me, becaus if they really wanted us to change our flight for a more "convenient" date, they would have let us know in advance that there was a risk of the flights being cancelled whatsoever, and take the flight or cancel it at our own risk... But I lost my vacation days, and now I am afraid of losing my money.

I filed a dispute to my CC company, and it should apply to the fight that the services were not provided, right? after all, I wanted to go to Cabo, not to Mexico City :(

Update 2:

The person I spoke to at the CC dispute center seemed to understand, but.. is there any realistic chance to win this dispute? What can I do to increase my chances? It's a lot of money that we actually didn' have but just NEEDED to spend because of our bad year, and ended up being more stressed out :'(

There is nothing you can do. Do you have a TV or radio or any access to the outside world? this storm was covered extensively!

they did the best they could in a very bad situation, I seriously doubt you will get your money back but you might get some free future flights

"They don't owe you a free flight to Mexico City, a free flight home, nor do they owe you a free ticket in the future. If they WANT to do those things, fine. But they don't owe you.

    Two thoughts.....

    1) Nobody NEEDS to take a vacation. The fact that you had a bad years and don't have the money to cover the trip are sadly facts of life.

    2) Anybdoy who has seen 30 seconds of the news in the last month knows that there are hurricanes and tropical storms going on.

Sorry dude, but time to suck it up.

You wont win. Acts of nature are not anyones fault.

the person at the credit card doesn't have a clue.

By all means, dispute it but do NOT hold your breath.

You won't win this. You should have bought travel insurance. This is the peak of the hurricane season, so you should expect weather delays and cancellations.

You are not going to win:

    1) You boarded an airplane and thus you received a service. You are NOT going to get a refund because you were inconvenienced.

    2) It is common knowledge that airlines are not responsible for acts of God, such as weather. TRUST ME this was in the fine print when you booked the tickets. If you failed to read that, that is your problem.

    Nothing.

"I filed a dispute to my CC company, and it should apply to the fight that the services were not provided, right? after all, I wanted to go to Cabo, not to Mexico City"

But they DID provide those services. Your flight was delayed due to a tropical storm and you CHOSE NOT TO carry on to Cabo once it was safe.

ANYTHING they do for you beyond what they offered is a voluntary courtesy.

They don't owe you a free flight to Mexico City, a free flight home, nor do they owe you a free ticket in the future. If they WANT to do those things, fine. But they don't owe you.

You had the option of purchasing travel insurance. You didn't. Too bad so sad. Next time think about the possibility of a hurricane during hurricane season before you skip the insurance.
