My closest friend and I were friends before we were even born. Our mothers worked together and they lived 3 houses down from us.
We were born 6 months apart and grew up together untill we moved when I was 6. BUT we kept in touch because my grandparents lived 4 houses down from them.
We eventually moved back to the old neighborhood to take care of my aging grand-parents and we walked to junior high together and eventually drove to high school together and graduated together.
We talk to each other at least once a week and at one point, my wife wanted to re-model our home and he did the job for $52 per square foot and added 1500 square feet to our home. That was huge.
So this 50 plus year relationship is still going strong and though it was not always sunshine and flowers, we always overcame our differences and have always been there for each other.
Incidentally, our mom's still hang out. They get together and try to spend our inheritances at one of the nearby casinos.

No. I'm 53 and have moved a whole lot and far away making lots of new friends along the way. I have raised a family. It gets hard to keep in touch.
