can I write off my surgery (venous insufficiency) on my taxes. The surgery cost more than I make a year.?

Update:

I borrowed money from relatives to pay for it.

    Yes. Health care expenses are deductible beyond a minimum threshold. You'll need to itemize and maintain copies of your explanation of benefits and the bills demonstrating you paid them, but yes, they are deductible.

    You can only write off the amount you've actually paid and it must exceed a certain percentage of your income. It's an itemized deduction along with the rest of your medical expenses and other itemized deductions on Schedule A.

    Anything you pay out, over 7% (?) of your income is tax-deductible, provided that you itemize.

    Only the part you actually paid for. Anything covered by insurance is not deductible.
