Why are many general practice doctors clueless about diabetes?
A previous doctor I had told me not to check my blood sugar every day. She said “that too much poking, do it once a week.” A friend has Type 2 diabetes told me her doctor, a young doctor, told her “we need to come up with a good treatment plan to get you back to type 1.” She was horrified when she learned he wasn’t joking. I have a relative with Type 1 and her doctor told her to stop taking medication. Luckily my sister heard about it an accompanied the relative on the next visit to the “doctor.”

If a person eats a lo carb, high (heathy) fat diet, there is a good chance that the diabetes will fall under control.
Atkins diet is a good example and there are many on the facebook page, It's a Low Carb-Atkins Life for Us, who have reduced their medications for diabetes or who were able to quit them all together. You can join if you want and put questions out there. Everyone participating in the group will give good answers when they have them.
It's also a great group - drama free! No one will make fun of your situation or be nasty.

I am type 2 diabetic and only time I get my blood checked is every 6 months by doctor, the rest of the time I stick to healthy eating and exercise and when blood tests done always come back good. As for your question no doctor would tell someone with type 2 they want them to get back to type 1 because type 1 is usually found at a young age or years after having uncontrolled type 2 and they have to check levels before meals to decide how much insulin to take and it is not curable

What? That's why I was thinking especially when I was first diagnosed. I thought a diabetic is suppose it test their blood sugar daily, in fact 3-5 times a day. Type 1 diabetics usually have to wear insulin pumps. Type I am a Type 2 diabetic, but with dieting and exercise I don't have to take any of my meds.
