LA has major attractions, museums, restaurants and nightlife plus a plethora of beaches. St. Louis has humidity, lots of it.

Los Angeles doesn't have much of a side line. What people call "Los Angeles" is actually a bunch of different neighborhoods strung together. There's plenty to do there, but you have to have a car, and then you sit in traffic most of the time. St. Louis has the Arch, and is on a river, but there's not a whole lot to do downtown.
