Why is my heart beat not slowing down after the initial feeling of unease has passed already?

Because the increased pulse rate is caused by release of adrenalin (epinepherine and norepinepherine) into the blood stream. Once triggered by fear or anxiety, the adrenal glands release these hormones for at least a minute or two, or until the cause of the fear/anxiety is gone. These hormones raise the breathing and pulse rates; and also cause a huge spike in blood sugar. It can take 30-45 minutes for the hormones to be deactivated and for blood sugar top return to normal..
