A little of both. It's a relationship in the sense that when the Holy Spirit dwells in you that you are one with God at that point. You have a special communion with God as the Spirit of God begins to move in your life and dwell inside of you. Keep in mind that in Romans 8 the Bible says if you do not have the Spirit of God you do not belong to him. Words to ponder.

Religion is man's effort to seek God and then earn his/her justification with God.
Christianity is God's effort to make himself known to us.
When Christianity becomes a religion it looses it's purpose.

Christianity fits the definition of "religion." It is indeed a religion. Some silly people recently decided to ignore the truth and call it a "relationship", which is nowhere mentioned in the Bible.

It started out as a cult, then, as it grew, it gained legitimacy. It's now a religion and one that's on the way out.
