6x-3y=18, 6x+3y=-12 solve by addition method for x I keep getting 1?

    6x - 3y = 18

    6x + 3y = -12

    12x = 6

    x = 1/2

    y = -5

    6x-3y=18

    6x+3y=-12 add vertically

    --------------

    12x+0=6

    x=6/12 = 1/2

    6x-3y=18

    6x+3t=-12

    Add:

    12x = 6

    x = 1/2

    6x+3y=-12

    (6)(1/2) + 3y = -12

    3 + 3y = -12

    3y = -12-3

    3y=-15

    y=-5

    x=1/2 ; y=-5
