Why do we kill people as a punishment for killing people?
Seems a bit counterproductive and hypocritical to me...

for those shallow and or immoral enough not to discern the difference between murder and lawful execution that's understandable. in case it helps, murder is the intentional unjustified taking of life. execution and self defense are the justified taking of life as just punishment and exercise of the right of self preservation. using the fact that both involve killing to claim they are morally the same shows a lack of any moral sense, or more likely, an intent to deceive through fallacy of false equivalence/substitution.

I'm fine with that, as long as they don't transport the guy that dares harm my family in a Kevlar vest....You would not kill me for killing him, would you...

It isn't hypocritical. The state acting according to set laws is somewhat different from an individual acting against those laws. Neither is it counterproductive, since there's no recidivism among those executed. It is, however, overly expensive and wasteful.

1. crimes should be punished
2. Because we don't want them to do it again.
3. Some people may be deterred by the penalty and they hesitate at least before killing someone.
Death sentence opponents claim that the penalty does not deter criminals. That is similar to the argument the gun lobby uses against gun control, i.e. criminals are not deterred by gun laws. Therefore it is as ridiculous for those against the death penalty as it is for the gun lobby to argue against laws.

So your tax dollars don't have to be used to give them three meals and a bed, free medical etc for the rest of their pathetic lives. You probably don't pay taxes though or it would make an impression.

Because, a lot of us don't want some of our taxes to help pay for that son of a ***** to live. I much rather see them dead. It brings more peace to the family affected.
