Are you physically safer on an airplane that's in flight or on land during a major earthquake?

An airplane in flight is TOTALLY isolated from any earthquake issues.

The only problem would occur if their destination airport was damaged by the earthquake, and the plane had to divert to another location.

    Lol

That's like asking if a ship is sinking, is it safer to be on dry land than on the ship.

    Massively safer on the airplane.

With passenger planes operated by major airlines, the typical time between incidents (not disasters, just something unusual enough to need abnormal action) is around 450 years, if you stayed on the plane 24/7
