Classical Concert etiquette?

Update:

I am writing a paper where I have to contrast 3 examples of how the culture from The Classical Era differs from modern day. ( Specifically during Mozart) I wanted one of the examples to be on concert/audience etiquette. However, I am having trouble finding information about this. All I really know was that people made it known whether they liked or hated the music by booing and yelling spontaneous. If anyone has more information on this, I would really appreciate it. Thank You!

Back in those days it was common for the audience to wander about and talk to their friends.

The way I understand it, Beethoven was the first composer to tell the audience to sit down and shut up.

Then, as they are now, people creating a disturbance in a classical music setting are removed, but such occurrences are rare.

  • There was nobody taking flash photographs. That's a biggie for me.
