Who are the poster children of the Armed services? Or who do you think of first when someone says Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine etc and why?

In the Navy, Doris Miller, was literally, a poster boy the NAVY-

He was the COOK, who, without training, manned a deck gun, during the attack on Pearl Harbor, after his ship was hit. He also physically helped saved his Captain-----and dozens of other shipmates that day.

Despite all this, and because of RACISM, he was only awarded the 3rd highest Honor......the Navy Cross.

the first Black , to receive such an Honor.......when Others that day, who did less, were accorded higher Honors, and even awarded commissions.

He was hailed as the FIRST hero of WW2.

Alas, he was killed just two years later, when his ship at that time was torpedoed by the Japanese and sank in just 23 minutes. There were only 200 survivors, and he was not among them.

Everyone else , went down with the ship.
