Seniors, why don't the holiday seasons seem exciting and joyful when we're so much older?

And why aren't there many new posts in here anymore?

Update:

Also, why are all these ads in here now, Even Adblock Plus can't get rid of them!

For many, it's probably because of loneliness.

I was wondering the same thing about the lack of seniors posting.. My guess would be that they got tired of all the Y!A trolls and advertisements. Most of them probably don't have super fast computers and it takes forever to load pages with all the ads on them.

It's just another reminder to some seniors of having to be alone. Even though I have grandkids, they don't live nearby & I always have to take turns with the ex. I don't like valentine's day or any holiday that is a blatant reminder I'm alone. I already know I am, I don't need reminding.

Often it can be stressful to see extended family even if you don't see them often. Travel, and or entertaining can be expensive. Not seeing people you want to see, for various reasons can be painful.

Re xmas, part of the reason for me is that time goes by quicker and quicker the older one gets so xmas seems to come around about every 6 months rather than every 12 months. And given that the decorating and celebrations, etc, go on for about a month (at least), that means every 5 months.

I do love my xmas music, though mostly not so much the reindeer/snowmen stuff except when done well and only interspersed with the more classical singing/etc, but I try to hold off and listen only a short time every year or it won't have the same special feel and be too familiar.

I also like the look of lights and red/gold/silver/etc in the dead of winter. It's a natural reaction and that's how marking the darkest time of the year (Winter Solstice) started long long ago anyway (way before Christians decided to use that time too)--with light and bright/cheerful colors against the darkness and to say that light and life (sun and plant growth) *will* return, plus celebrations to give people something fun to do and bring them together when otherwise cold and dark would separate them.

I focus on those two things mostly.

Re ads, I'm not really seeing any except for the gray boxes in between some of the answers and those are so easy to ignore that I really don't notice them. Some kinds of ads would be horrible though, but not seeing those (using Chrome and Adblock Plus).

Re less activity here, that's true over all the categories I read at Yahooanswers and is due to users not being able to have a fulfilling experience because of changes at YA (all bad), plus Yahoo just paying no attention to dealing with problems or making the site better. This category is the least active of the ones I read but seems to be ticking back up again a little. Never was all that active though.

I know, for me, I am just not into the hype like I used to be. Mostly it is directly related to my grand kids being older now. It was much more fun when they were small and in awe of holidays.

Because they are boring events promoted by the media and big companies wanting to make money.

Probably because the older you get you've seen it all and get tired of it. I've notice my MIL who is 85 now just don't care about it and don't even put fix Thanksgiving dinners or put up a tree but she will give out candy for the tricker treaters. but some of us do enjoy it as long as we have grandkids around to enjoyed it with us.

As for the ads down below your questions you can't get rid of those ads, even adblocker will not block them and they have been there for over a year now, just like the "Trending Now" is below your question we can't get rid of it either, its their way for us to click on them to see the ads,....how else will they get paid? because every time you click on a "ad" they gain revenue.

Also for the reason why no one is asking questions on here is probably because people are leaving this site and going somewhere else.

Could be a depressing time or a happy time. You could think about the past gone by which might be happy or sad. Depends how you look at it.
