How long should it take for the president to contact the family of a fallen soldier, either by phone call or letter?

Update:

electricpole That I could understand, if we had hundreds of soldiers dying every day, but so few are dying now, and it's a pretty hot button issue, for good or ill. Plus, it was the president's own choice to politicize Obama's "neglect" in the matter (which was false). Should he not at least maintain a standard as high as he sets for someone else?

Update 2:

W.T. Door, electricpole, et.al., I am not talking about the soldier killed in Niger; I am talking about Army Spc. Etienne J. Murphy, 22, who died in Syria in May. His mother has yet to be contacted by the president. "The Associated Press reached out to the families of all 43 people who have died in military service since Trump became president and made contact with about half the families. Of those who would address the question,

Update 3:

relatives of nine said they had heard from Trump by phone or mail. Relatives of nine others said they haven't." http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/pol...

Update 4:

Please understand, again, I would NOT CARE, except that it was Trump himself who made this an issue with his spurious accusations against Obama.

As soon as he has been informed the family has been officially notified

The Presidents call would not be good first notification

In a large-scale hot war it is not possible because of the numbers of casualties. In our current low-intensity situation the president needs to be briefed on the casualties, but normally will contact the parents and/or wife within a few days.

You cannot contact them all, and it has always been on an ad hoc basis.

    There is no "should" here.

I never enlisted expecting that my family receive a personal contact from the President, should I die in the line of duty.

Now, the soldier in question was doing extraordinary duty, in an elite unit. His contribution far exceeded anything I did. And may rate a personal contact from at least his CO, or higher.

Depends. They have a lot going on themselves. But I would wager within a few days of the news
