Is self harm an addiction?

I had episodes (more like season) of depression when I was younger and self harmed like I was my job. Every once in a while I still self harm.

A few minutes ago, I was bored so the first thing I wanted to do was cut. Not cause I'm sad, but just because I felt like I wanted to. I'm not depressed or covering any pain, but I just want to self harm because I feel a dependency on it when I'm bored or when i feel any extreme emotion, even happiness.

Is this what an addiction is? I mean, I keep around glass and scissors, simply because I feel like I need them there even if I don't use them.

You need to stop. Get help. People don't just cut for no reason but to RELEASE PAIN.

It is an addiction and very serious and for you to say you do it just because you're bored is freaking ridiculous. IT IS A SERIOUS THING, NOT FOR FVCKING FUN.

You would be the best person to explain it to others, and even help others who have not overcome this.

Good to hear, you are on a different path.

Usually, its based on inside pain that others try to express by doing this, its good to hear from someone who can help others, since you have walked that road.
