If you have a manual transmission the clutch is slipping and needs replacement.
If it's an automatic tranny you need to get a rebuilt transmission. Once an automatic starts slipping it's junk. Didn't change the ATF every 60,000 miles did you?

If it is a stick shift trans, your clutch is slipping and needs adjustment (if it can be done) or a new clutch.
Automatic Trans, components in the trans is slipping and you need a trans overhaul.

If it is an automatic transmission, it sounds like it is kaput. If it is a manual, your clutch it &*(()_ or you are ^&*()_ and don't know how to drive a manual.

Help to know at least if auto or manual? And; does tach (rev counter) climb But little to no acceleration? If so, if manual, it needs a new clutch possibly flywheel turned and new pressure plate.
If auto; may be worn bands/clutches.
Could be a kickdown solenoid--does it go CLUNK and then engage after a lag? Chryslers are prone to this.
There is some Motor Medic which can fix some non engagement problems and help slip for a Little while. But if it's slipping, you will need a tranny rebuild pretty soon.Stuff the cookie jar every month.
My F***** Audi lost 2nd gear, so it had Trouble accelerating--is this your problem? I found a broken spring rto a valve in the valve body, I turned it 'round so the flat sides faced each other, it worked! This means, draining fluid, dropping pan and removing filter to see.
EDIT: My Bad,. If tach does not climb, it may be engine or restrictive exhaust--new Cat time.

That would happen on a manual transmission car if the clutch is worn out or badly adjusted. It would be a more expensive fault if you have an automatic gearbox. Either can be fixed.

Manual (stick shift)? then its clutch slip/failure
Auto box - then it is some transmission failure that no one on here could possibly diagnose.
