Why does Hollywood look down on tradespeople, as exemplified in the standard family sitcom?
In every family sitcom made since at least the 80s, at some point the kids are graduating high school and a major plot point is getting into college. The characters fear having to become, horrors, an A/C repair tech, a mechanic, a construction worker, and so on. Often the main characters will have a dumb friend who becomes one of these things.

TV has been slowly dwindling away from that standard since the 80s. More and more you have shows that depict regular, modest, working class families who are actually representative of the way most american families truly are.

Some do, some don't. Waitresses have been stars of multiple shows. Jackie Gleason drove a bus. Art Carney worked in a sewer. The Sanford ram a junk yard. Al Bundy sold shoes.
But I get your point.
